Messages FAQ
Common questions about Messages — channels, direct messages, threads, the Ante AI companion, and shared group chats with people from other companies. Each answer points to the page that covers the topic in full.
Getting Started
Where do I open Messages?
Click the message icon in the top header bar. A red number on it is your total of unread messages. On a phone, use the Messages tab in the bottom bar of ANTE Mobile. See Messages.
What does the red number next to a conversation mean?
It is the number of messages you have not read in that conversation (it shows 99+ above 99). The conversation name is also bold until you open it. Opening a conversation marks it read.
I can't find a colleague when I search. Why?
Channels and direct messages only include people from your own company, and the search only lists your company's people. Someone from a different company can only be reached through a shared group that a developer created.
How do I start a conversation with one person?
Click + next to Direct Messages, type part of their name in the To box, and click their name. If you already had a direct message with them, it simply reopens.
How do I create a channel?
Click + next to Channels, enter a Channel name, choose Public or Private, tick the people to add, and click Create channel. Steps are on the Messages page.
Shared Group Chats
How do I create a shared group with people from other companies?
Only developers can. Click + next to Channels, enter a name, turn on Include people from other companies, search for people by name, email, username, or company name, tick them, and click Create channel. See Creating a Shared Group.
Why don't I see the 'Include people from other companies' switch?
The switch is only shown to developers. If you need a conversation that includes people from another company, ask a developer to create the group and add you.
How do I add a client to a shared group?
You must be a developer member of the group. Open the group, click the people icon in the header to open Members, click Add people, search for the person (their company is shown under their name), tick them, and click Add. See Adding People Later.
Who can add, remove, or rename in a shared group?
Only developer members can add people, remove other people, and rename the group. Client members can read, write, reply in threads, see who is in the group, and leave.
How do I leave a shared group, and can the last developer leave?
Open Members and click Leave group (on ANTE Mobile, tap the exit icon at the top right). Anyone can leave, except the last developer: a shared group must keep at least one developer, so leaving is refused until another developer is in the group.
I saw 'You were removed from a group.' What happened?
A developer member of that shared group removed you. The group disappears from your list and you can no longer read it. A developer can add you again if it was a mistake.
How do I know which company a person is from?
In a shared group, each message shows the sender's name followed by their company, the header lists the companies taking part, and the Members panel groups people under their company.
Can I use shared groups on my phone?
Yes, to read, write, and leave them — they appear under Channels in the Messages tab. Creating a group and adding or removing people is desktop-only.
Writing and Replying
How do I reply to one message without cluttering the channel?
Hover over the message and click the reply arrow to start a thread. The thread opens in a panel on the right, and the original message shows a link such as 2 replies that reopens it. See Replying in a Thread.
Can I edit or delete a message I sent?
Yes. Hover over your own message and use the pencil (Edit) or the bin (Delete). A deleted message leaves Message deleted in the conversation. You can only edit or delete your own messages.
Why won't my file attach?
Each file can be up to 10 MB, and web-page, script, and similar file types are not allowed. The message names the file that was refused. Attaching files is a desktop feature — ANTE Mobile sends text only.
How do I link someone to a specific conversation or message?
Click the link icon in the conversation header to copy the conversation's address, or Copy link on a message to point at that message. The person must be allowed to see the conversation to open it.
The Ante AI Companion and Support
Can other people read my chat with Ante?
No. The Ante conversation at the top of your list is private to you. Ante only works with what you are allowed to see in ANTE. See Asking Ante, the AI Companion.
Where do I raise a support ticket?
Click the lifebuoy icon (Raise a concern) at the top of the conversation list, in any conversation header, or on an Ante answer (Turn into a concern). Follow your tickets under My Tickets. See Filing a Concern.
