Category Settings

Governance → Settings holds three small screens that manage the categories used to organise the rest of the module: Policy Categories, Risk Categories and Training Categories. They all work the same way — a name, a colour, and a list you can add to, edit and tidy — and set them up before you create the policies, risks and courses that use them. The Settings menu appears when you have the matching category permission.

Policy Categories

Open Governance → Settings → Policy Categories. Every policy is filed under one category (for example Human Resources or Information Technology), and the Policies list groups and filters by it.

  1. Add a category

Press Add Category. A form opens above the list.

    Name*
For example HR Policies. Names must be unique; a duplicate is refused with a message.
    Description
A brief description of the category (optional).
    Color
One of ten colour dots. The colour marks the category on the policy list.

Press Create. To change one later use its edit icon and Save Changes.

  2. Delete a category

The trash icon asks Delete? with a Yes, Delete button.

Built-in and in-use categories

A system category cannot be deleted and cannot be renamed (you can still change its colour and description). A category that still has policies cannot be deleted; the app tells you how many policies use it, so move them to another category first.

You can also create a category on the fly while writing a policy: type a new name in the policy's Category field and choose to create it.

Risk Categories

Open Governance → Settings → Risk Categories (also reachable from Manage Categories on the Risk Register). Risk categories group risks by domain: Strategic, Operational, Financial, Compliance, Reputational, Cyber & IT, People / HR and so on.

  1. Add or edit

Press Add Category, enter a Name (for example Cyber & IT), pick a Color and press Create. Use the edit button on a row, then Save Changes, to change one.

  2. Delete

The delete button asks for confirmation. Risks that used the deleted category keep their reference to it.

Categories marked System are fixed: they have no edit or delete button.

Preview

Like the Risk Register itself, risk categories are sample data held in the browser for now; changes are not saved to the server and last only for the session.

Training Categories

Open Governance → Settings → Training Categories. Categories organise the course library — Onboarding, Compliance, Safety, Technical and so on — and learners see them as a filter in the course catalog. Each row shows its colour dot, name, description and how many courses use it.

  1. Add a category

    Press New Category.

    Name*
For example Onboarding, Compliance or Safety.
    Description
A one-line note for administrators (optional).
    Color
    One of ten colour dots.
    Sort Order
A number, default 0. Lower numbers sort to the top of the catalog.
  2. Edit or delete

Use the edit icon on a row to open Edit Category. The delete icon asks you to confirm; if courses use the category the message says how many, and deleting it leaves those courses uncategorised — it does not delete them.

Tip

You can also create a training category without leaving the course dialog: type a new name in the course's Category field and the same category dialog opens.

How It Connects

Gets its data from

  • Policies — the category field on a policy offers these categories and can create one on the spot.
  • Training Courses — the course dialog and the course list filter use the training categories.

Feeds into

  • Policies — the policy list is grouped and filtered by policy category, and a category in use cannot be deleted.
  • Risk Register — every risk is filed under a risk category.
  • Training Courses — courses are filed under a training category; deleting a category leaves its courses uncategorised.
  • Governance Overview — the By Category rows follow the policy categories.
