School FAQ
Common questions about the School module, the Gate App at the school entrance, and the Guardian App parents use on their phones. Each answer links to the page that covers the topic in full.
The School Module in ANTE
What can I do in the School module today?
The School module is still under development. Opening it shows a placeholder screen with the message "This module is under development" — no student, guardian, attendance, gate, grade-level, or section screens are available in the app yet. The one working area is the Media Library. Access is controlled by the School Management permission; ask your administrator if you cannot open the module. See the School Module page.
What is the School Media Library for, and what can I store in it?
It is a shared file store scoped to the School module — the same Media Library tool used elsewhere in ANTE, but the files and folders you see here belong to School only. You can upload images, documents, videos, and audio, organize them into folders, tag them so they turn up in search, and reuse them. Accepted types include images, video, audio, PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, and CSV, up to 50MB per file. A folder must be empty before it can be deleted, and deleting a file removes it from storage for good. See School Media Library.
The Gate App
How does the gate know whether a scan is an entry or an exit?
The system decides automatically from the person's most recent record that day, so the operator never chooses — each scan is recorded as a check-in or a check-out. The same person cannot be recorded twice within 10 seconds: a repeat scan inside that window is rejected with a message asking the operator to wait, which prevents accidental double scans. See the School Gate API page.
What happens if the gate device loses its internet connection?
The gate keeps operating. The Gate App caches the synced student and guardian lists on the device, so scanning still works against those lists and attendance queries fall back to the cached data. Because the lists and photos come from that sync, run a student and guardian sync before the day starts — and keep the device clock accurate, since the scan timestamp comes from the device.
How is a gate device set up and kept track of?
Each physical gate signs in with a license key issued for that gate — there is no username and password, and the key is stored on the device after the first validation, so operators never re-enter it. Devices are registered and monitored in Device Management, where each record carries a name, location, type (entry, exit, or both), and an online or offline status, and where a device's key can be regenerated or the device deactivated.
The Guardian App
What can a parent or guardian see in the Guardian App?
A guardian signs in and taps Student Information to see the students linked to their account, each as a card with photo or initials, name, student number, grade level and section, and an Active or Inactive badge. Tapping a card opens the student's personal details (gender, date of birth, age, LRN) and academic details (grade level, section, adviser, school year). The screen is read-only — a guardian adds a student by scanning that student's QR code, and anything that looks wrong has to be corrected by the school. See Viewing Your Students.
Which notifications do guardians receive, and can they be turned off?
Four kinds: Attendance Alerts when a student enters or leaves school, Emergency Alerts, Payment Reminders, and General Announcements. The device registers itself automatically after login, so guardians have no setup to do. From Account → Notification Settings they can switch types on or off, control the notification sound, and set Quiet Hours that mute non-emergency notifications during a chosen time range — Emergency Alerts are still delivered. See Push Notifications.
A guardian says notifications aren't arriving — what should I check?
Confirm they are logged in to the Guardian App, that the device has granted the app notification permission, and that it has a working internet connection. Then check their Notification Settings: the notification type may be switched off, or the time may fall inside their Quiet Hours, which hold everything except Emergency Alerts. Late notifications usually point to the same two causes — Quiet Hours, or an unstable connection.
