Paused Tasks
The Paused tab on the Tasks page collects every task you have put on hold. Pausing a task takes it out of your active list, records why it was paused and how long it has been on hold, and keeps a running pause history so you can see each time the task was paused and resumed. When you are ready, you resume the task and it returns to your active work.
Overview
Open the Tasks page from the sidebar under Workspace β Tasks, then click the Paused tab in the status tabs row. The tab shows a count badge with the number of tasks you currently have paused.
Pausing is useful when a task cannot continue right now β for example, you are waiting on someone else, blocked by another task, or holding the work for a later date β but you do not want to mark it done, delete it, or leave it sitting stale in your active list.
You can pause a task in two ways:
- Pause Task β opens a short dialog where you choose a pause duration and write a reason.
- Quick Pause (1 day) β a one-click shortcut that pauses the task for 1 day and lets you add a reason later. While the reason is missing, the task is marked Reason pending.
The Paused Tab
When the Paused tab is active, the task table adds two columns that are specific to paused tasks:
- Reason β the reason given when the task was paused. If you used Quick Pause and have not added a reason yet, this shows Reason pending. Long reasons are shortened, and hovering over the text shows the full reason.
- Paused For β how long the task has been paused (for example,
2d 4h,5h, or12m). This adds up the time from earlier pauses plus the current pause.
The usual columns (Title, Project, Status, Priority, Assignee, Due Date, Age) appear as well.
Click any row to open the task's detail dialog, where you can see the full pause details, the pause history, and the option to resume.
How to Pause a Task
From the task list
- Go to Workspace β Tasks and find the task you want to pause.
- Right-click the task row to open its context menu.
- Choose Pause Task.
When you pause from the right-click menu, the task is paused until tomorrow (1 day).
From the task detail dialog
- Click the task to open its detail dialog.
- Click the Pause task button (the pause icon) in the dialog header.
- The Pause Task dialog opens. Fill it in:
- Pause Duration β choose how long to pause the task (see the field reference below).
- Number of Days β appears only when you choose Custom; enter the number of days (1β365).
- Reason β type why the task is being paused.
- Click Pause Task to confirm. The Pause Task button stays disabled until you enter a reason.
The task then moves to the Paused tab and a paused banner appears at the top of the task detail.
Quick Pause (1 day)
If you want to pause immediately and explain it later:
- Open the Pause Task dialog from the task detail (steps 1β2 above).
- Click Quick Pause (1 day) at the bottom-left of the dialog.
The task is paused for 1 day with no reason. It is flagged Reason pending in the Reason column and in the paused banner, reminding you to come back and add a reason.
Field Reference β Pause Task Dialog
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Pause Duration | Yes | How long to pause the task. Options: 1 Day, 2 Days, 3 Days, 1 Week, 2 Weeks, Custom, Indefinite. |
| Number of Days | Only for Custom | Shown only when Pause Duration is Custom. Enter a whole number of days (1β365). |
| Reason | Yes (to use Pause Task) | The reason the task is being paused. Required to confirm with the Pause Task button. Not required when using Quick Pause. |
Dialog buttons:
- Quick Pause (1 day) β pause for 1 day now, add a reason later (sets Reason pending).
- Cancel β close the dialog without pausing.
- Pause Task β confirm the pause with the duration and reason you entered (enabled only once a reason is typed).
Indefinite pauses the task with no set end. Use it when you do not know when the task will resume. You can resume it manually at any time.
Viewing Pause Details and History
Open a paused task to see its pause information in the detail dialog:
- Paused banner β appears at the top of the task while it is paused. It shows Task Paused, who paused it (by [name]), and the reason. If no reason has been added yet, it shows the Reason pending note instead.
- Pause History β inside the collapsible info panel, the Pause History section lists each time the task was paused. For every entry you see:
- Who paused it (the person's name)
- When it was paused
- The reason
- Either Resumed [date] with the length of that pause, or Currently paused if it is still on hold
This gives you a full record of every hold the task has been through.
How to Resume a Task
Resuming a task removes it from the Paused tab and returns it to your active list. No reason is needed to resume.

- Open the Paused tab (or find the paused task in any view).
- Right-click the task row.
- Choose Resume Task.
From the task detail dialog
- Open the paused task.

Tips and Best Practices
- Pause instead of leaving work stale β pausing records why a task is on hold and keeps it out of your active list without losing it.
- Always add a reason when you can β tasks flagged Reason pending are easy to lose track of; reopen them to fill in why they were paused.
- Use Quick Pause for short holds β when you only need to step away for a day, Quick Pause is the fastest option.
- Use Indefinite for open-ended holds β when there is no clear restart date, pause indefinitely and resume manually later.
- Check Paused For β the duration column tells you at a glance which tasks have been sitting paused the longest.
