Pricing Tiers

Pricing Tiers are reusable, preset pricing packages attached to a deal type. When you create a deal of that type, you can pick a tier to auto-fill the deal's financial fields with the tier's standard pricing. As you adjust those numbers, ANTE shows the variance against the standard and β€” if the tier has a discount ceiling β€” flags deals that discount too deeply for manager approval.

Overview

A pricing tier belongs to one deal type and carries four standard amounts plus an optional discount limit and guidance notes:

  • Standard pricing β€” Approved Budget, Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), Implementation Fee, and Total Contract.
  • Margin protection β€” an optional Max Discount %. Deals discounted beyond this percentage require approval.
  • Guidance β€” free-text notes that appear as a hint when the tier is offered during deal creation.

Pricing tiers are managed from a deal type's detail page. They are then offered when you create or edit a deal whose deal type has at least one tier.

Finding Pricing Tiers

  1. In the sidebar, open CRM and select Deal Type.
  2. Click a deal type's row to open its detail page.
  3. Open the Pricing Tiers tab (next to Overview).

The Pricing Tiers tab lists every tier configured for that deal type. Each row shows:

ColumnDescription
Tier NameThe tier's name, with its tier code and (if set) description shown beneath it
Monthly Recurring RevenueThe tier's standard MRR
Implementation FeeThe tier's standard one-time implementation fee
Total ContractThe tier's standard total contract value
Max Discount %The discount ceiling shown as a badge, or β€” when there is no limit

Each row has an edit (pencil) and a delete (trash) button. If no tiers exist yet, the tab shows an empty state with an Add First Pricing Tier button.

Field Reference

The Add Tier / Edit Tier dialog has the following fields.

FieldRequiredDescription
Tier NameYesName of the tier (placeholder example: "Standard")
Tier CodeYesShort code. Auto-generated from the tier name as you type (lowercased, spaces become hyphens). Cannot be changed after the tier is created.
DescriptionNoBrief description of this tier
Approved BudgetNoThe tier's standard approved budget for the contract
Monthly Recurring RevenueNoThe tier's standard recurring monthly revenue (MRR)
Implementation FeeNoThe tier's standard one-time implementation fee
Total ContractNoAuto-computed as Implementation Fee + (MRR Γ— 12). The field shows the hint "Auto-computed: Implementation Fee + (MRR Γ— 12)" while auto-compute is active; typing your own value turns auto-compute off and keeps your entry.
Max Discount %NoDiscount ceiling (0–100). The helper text reads "Deals exceeding this discount need approval." Leave blank for no limit.
Guidance NotesNoNotes that guide when this tier should be used (placeholder example: "e.g., Use for clients with <50 users"). These notes appear under the tier when it is offered during deal creation.

Tier Code is editable only when creating a tier β€” when editing an existing tier the field is locked.

How Tiers Are Applied to a Deal

When you create or edit a deal (CRM β†’ Deals β†’ Create Deal), a Pricing Tier selector appears only if the chosen deal type has at least one pricing tier. The selector lists each tier by name, with the tier's Guidance Notes shown as the option description.

When you pick a tier:

  1. The deal's Approved Budget Contract, Monthly Recurring Revenue, Implementation Fee, and Total Contract are filled in from the tier's standard pricing.
  2. A green banner appears: "Standard pricing applied from tier β€” edit values to customize."
  3. You can edit any of those amounts. They are not locked β€” the tier only provides a starting point.

If you change the deal's deal type, any previously applied tier and its standard pricing are cleared. Clearing the tier selection also clears the standard-pricing reference (but leaves whatever values are already in the fields).

Variance indicators

After a tier is applied, each financial field shows a small variance indicator beneath it whenever its value differs from the tier's standard:

  • A green up arrow with the amount β€” the value is above standard (an upsell).
  • A red down arrow with the amount β€” the value is below standard (a discount).
  • When a value equals the standard, no indicator is shown for that field.

The Total Contract variance also shows the percentage difference from the tier's standard total.

Margin-protection (discount) warning

If the applied tier has a Max Discount %, ANTE watches the Total Contract discount:

  • It calculates the discount as the percentage by which the deal's Total Contract falls below the tier's standard Total Contract.
  • If that discount exceeds the tier's Max Discount %, a red warning appears in the dialog: "Discount of {percent}% exceeds the {max}% threshold β€” this deal will require manager approval."

The warning only appears for discounts (Total Contract below standard), never for upsells, and only when the tier defines a Max Discount %.

Discount Approval

A deal that exceeds its tier's discount threshold carries an approval state. On such a deal, an approval banner reflects the current status:

  • Discount Approval Required (pending) β€” shows the discount percentage that exceeded the threshold, an optional notes field, and Approve / Reject buttons.
  • Discount Approved β€” shows who approved it and any approval notes.
  • Discount Rejected β€” shows who rejected it and any notes.

To act on a pending approval, optionally type a note and click Approve or Reject. The banner updates to the new status.

Common Tasks

Add a pricing tier

  1. Open CRM β†’ Deal Type and click the deal type's row.
  2. Open the Pricing Tiers tab.
  3. Click Add Tier (or Add First Pricing Tier if the tab is empty).
  4. Enter the Tier Name (required) β€” the Tier Code fills in automatically.
  5. Optionally fill in Description, Approved Budget, MRR, Implementation Fee, Max Discount %, and Guidance Notes. Leave Total Contract to auto-compute, or type your own value to override it.
  6. Click Create.

Edit a pricing tier

  1. On the deal type's Pricing Tiers tab, click the edit (pencil) button on the tier's row.
  2. Update the fields. (The Tier Code cannot be changed.)
  3. Click Save.

Delete a pricing tier

  1. On the Pricing Tiers tab, click the delete (trash) button on the tier's row.
  2. Confirm in the dialog. Deleting a tier does not affect existing deals.

Apply a tier to a deal

  1. Open CRM β†’ Deals and click Create Deal (or edit an existing deal).
  2. Choose a Deal Type that has pricing tiers configured.
  3. In the Pricing Tier selector that appears, choose a tier.
  4. The financial fields fill in with the tier's standard pricing and the "Standard pricing applied" banner appears.
  5. Adjust any amounts as needed β€” watch the variance indicators, and the margin-protection warning if you discount past the tier's limit.

Tips

  • Let totals auto-compute β€” Total Contract is derived from Implementation Fee and MRR (Impl. Fee + MRR Γ— 12); only override it when you need a custom figure.
  • Set a Max Discount % to route deeply discounted deals through approval automatically.
  • Use Guidance Notes to tell salespeople when each tier fits β€” the notes surface as the option description in the deal's Pricing Tier selector.
  • Tier Code is permanent β€” choose it carefully, since it can't be changed after creation.
  • Deal Type β€” the category that owns the pricing tiers
  • Deals β€” where tiers are applied to a deal
  • Dashboard β€” CRM overview
