Creating a New Project
Learn how to create a new project in ANTE. Projects are created from a single Create New Project dialog — you fill in a short form and the project opens immediately.
Before You Start
You need access to the Projects module. If you can't see Projects in the sidebar, contact your administrator.
The person who creates the project is automatically set as the project's Person In Charge — you don't choose this on the form.
Creating a Project
Step 1: Open the Projects List
- Click Projects in the left sidebar.
- Open the List page (the projects list with all your projects shown as a table or grid).
Step 2: Open the Create Dialog
In the top-right of the list page, click the Create Project button (the filled button with a + icon).
A dialog titled Create New Project opens.
💡 Next to Create Project there is also a Templates button. This opens your saved project templates — it does not create a project directly.
Step 3: (Optional) Start From a Template
If your company has saved project templates, the dialog shows a Template (optional) dropdown at the top.
- Leave it on Start from scratch, or select a template… to create an empty project.
- Or pick a template to pre-fill the project's task list, team roles, milestones, and configuration. Each option shows the template name and its task count.
When a template is selected, the action button at the bottom changes to Create from Template.
Step 4: Fill In the Project Details
Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
Project Name *
- Enter a descriptive name (for example, "Office Renovation").
Project Code *
- A short identifier for the project (for example, "PRJ-001").
- As you type the Project Name, a code is suggested automatically from the name. You can overwrite it.
- If your company uses automatic project codes, this field is read-only and shows Auto-generated — the system assigns the code when you save.
Description
- Optional. A brief description of the project.
Amount
- Optional. The project budget amount. Enter numbers only (for example, 0.00).
- Must be a valid positive number if entered.
Client *
- Select the client from the searchable dropdown.
- If the client isn't listed, click New Client to add one without leaving the dialog. See Adding a Client on the Fly below.
Location
- Optional. Select a location from the searchable dropdown.
Start Date *
- Defaults to today's date. Pick the project start date.
End Date *
- Defaults to one month after the start date. Pick the expected completion date.
- The end date must be on or after the start date.
Step 5: Save the Project
At the bottom of the dialog:
- Click Create Project (or Create from Template if you selected a template) to create the project.
- Click Cancel to discard and close.
When the project is created, you're taken straight to the new project's detail page, where you can add tasks, milestones, team members, and more.
Adding a Client on the Fly
If you click New Client in the Client dropdown, a Quick Add Client dialog opens. Fill in:
- Client Name * — for example, "Acme Corporation".
- Email * — a valid email address.
- Contact Number *
- Location — optional.
Click Create Client. The new client is selected automatically in the project form.
Common Tasks
Edit a project after creating it
On the Projects list page, right-click the project row and choose Edit Project.
Duplicate a project
Right-click the project row and choose Duplicate Project.
Save a project as a template
Right-click the project row and choose Save as Template. This saves a reusable snapshot of the project's task list, team roles, milestones, and configuration (tasks are reset to Backlog). The template then appears in the Template (optional) dropdown when creating future projects.
Archive a project
Right-click the project row and choose Archive Project. Archived projects can be brought back later with Unarchive Project.
Common Questions
My client isn't in the dropdown — what do I do?
Click New Client inside the Client dropdown and fill in the Quick Add Client form (Client Name, Email, Contact Number, and optionally Location).
Why can't I type a project code?
Your company is set to generate project codes automatically. The field shows Auto-generated and the code is assigned when you save.
Who becomes the project owner?
The person creating the project is automatically assigned as the Person In Charge.
