Project Templates
Project templates let you reuse a proven project setup instead of building each new project from scratch. When you save a project as a template, ANTE captures a snapshot of its task list, team roles, milestones, and configuration. You can then create new projects from that template — the new project starts pre-filled with everything the template stored.
Before You Start
You need access to the Projects module. If you can't see Projects in the sidebar, contact your administrator.
There are three things you can do with templates:
- Save a project as a template — capture an existing project's setup for reuse.
- Manage templates — view your saved templates and delete ones you no longer need.
- Create a project from a template — start a new project pre-filled from a template.
Saving a Project as a Template
You save a template from the Projects list page by right-clicking the project you want to capture.
Step 1: Open the Projects List
- Click Projects in the left sidebar.
- Open the List page (your projects shown as a table or grid).
Step 2: Open the Save Dialog
Right-click the project row (or the project's card in grid view) and choose Save as Template from the menu.
A dialog titled Save as Template opens.
Step 3: Name the Template
The dialog explains that it will "Save a snapshot of this project's task list, team roles, milestones, and configuration as a reusable template."
Fill in:
Template Name *
- Required. Defaults to the project's name — you can change it.
- For example, "SaaS Implementation Template".
Description
- Optional. A short note about what the template is for.
Below the form, a What will be saved: box lists what the template captures from the project:
- Tasks — all the project's tasks, reset to Backlog status (the box shows the task count).
- Team roles, milestones, checklists, dependencies
- Custom fields, board lanes, automation rules
Step 4: Save
- Click Save Template to create the template.
- Click Cancel to close without saving.
When the template is saved, it becomes available in the Templates list and in the template dropdown on the Create New Project dialog.
Managing Templates
The Templates button opens a list of every template you've saved, where you can review them and remove ones you no longer need.
Open the Templates List
On the Projects list page, click the Templates button in the top-right (the outlined button with a document icon), next to Create Project.
A dialog titled Project Templates opens.
What Each Template Shows
Each template in the list displays:
- The template name (and its description, if one was entered).
- Three count chips:
- tasks — number of tasks captured.
- roles — number of team roles captured.
- milestones — number of milestones captured.
- The date the template was created.
If you have no templates yet, the dialog shows No templates yet with the hint: "Right-click any project and select 'Save as Template' to create one."
Use a Template From the List
Click the + (use) icon on a template row. The Templates dialog closes and the Create New Project dialog opens so you can fill in the new project's details. (You then select the template in the dialog — see Creating a Project From a Template below.)
Delete a Template
- Click the delete (trash) icon on a template row.
- A confirmation titled Delete Template appears asking you to confirm.
- Click Delete to remove the template permanently. This cannot be undone.
Click Close to dismiss the Templates dialog.
Creating a Project From a Template
You create a project from a template inside the standard Create New Project dialog.
Step 1: Open the Create Dialog
On the Projects list page, click the Create Project button in the top-right. The Create New Project dialog opens.
Step 2: Choose a Template
If you have saved templates, the dialog shows a Template (optional) dropdown at the top.
- Leave it on Start from scratch, or select a template… to create an empty project.
- Or pick a template from the dropdown. Each option shows the template name and its task count, for example "SaaS Implementation Template (12 tasks)". The dropdown is searchable.
When you select a template, the project will be pre-filled from the template's captured tasks, roles, milestones, and configuration. The action button at the bottom of the dialog changes to Create from Template.
💡 If you have no saved templates, the Template (optional) dropdown does not appear, and the dialog creates a blank project.
Step 3: Fill In the Project Details
Whether or not you picked a template, you still complete the project's own details. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
Project Name *
- A descriptive name for the project.
Project Code *
- A short identifier. A code is suggested automatically as you type the name; you can overwrite it.
- If your company uses automatic project codes, this field is read-only and shows Auto-generated.
Description
- Optional.
Amount
- Optional. The project budget. Numbers only; must be a valid positive number if entered.
Client *
- Select from the searchable dropdown, or click New Client to add one without leaving the dialog.
Location
- Optional.
Start Date *
- Defaults to today's date.
End Date *
- Defaults to one month after the start date. Must be on or after the start date.
Step 4: Create
Click Create from Template at the bottom of the dialog. The new project is created and you're taken straight to its detail page, pre-filled from the template.

Common Questions
What exactly gets saved in a template?
A snapshot of the project's tasks (reset to Backlog status), team roles, milestones, checklists, dependencies, custom fields, board lanes, and automation rules.
Do my tasks keep their progress when saved to a template?
No. Tasks are captured but reset to Backlog status in the template, so new projects start fresh.
I don't see a Template dropdown when creating a project — why?
The Template (optional) dropdown only appears when you have at least one saved template. If you have none, create one first by right-clicking a project and choosing Save as Template.
Can I undo deleting a template?
No. Deleting a template is permanent — the confirmation warns that the action cannot be undone.
