Sharing a Project

Give a client a public, read-only view of a project's status and timeline — no ANTE account required. Sharing lets your team generate a passcode-protected link that shows the project's live progress, milestones, and timeline, and lets the client comment on individual tasks, without giving them access to anything else in ANTE.

Overview

Every project can have one active share link. The link opens a public page at a web address in the form .../p/<token>, protected by a passcode that you generate and hand to the client. Anyone with both the link and the passcode can view the project's current status and timeline and leave comments on tasks — nothing else. Internal staff notes and the internal activity feed are never shown on the public page; only comments left by visitors on the public page itself are visible there.

The public page always shows the project's current data — it is not a saved snapshot, so refreshing it shows whatever has changed since the client last looked.

Opening the Share Dialog

  1. Open the project and click the Settings button (gear icon) in the page header.
  2. Choose Share from the dropdown menu.

If the project has no link yet, the dialog shows a short explanation and a Generate link button. Click it to create the link. Once generated, the dialog shows:

  • Link — the public URL to send the client, with a Copy button.
  • Passcode — an 8-character code, shown only once, with its own Copy button. A note reminds you to copy it now — it won't be shown again.

Copy both and send them to the client however you prefer (email, chat, etc.) — ANTE does not send them for you.

Once a link exists, the dialog shows the Link (with Copy) and, in place of the passcode, a masked •••••••• (hidden) placeholder with a Reset passcode action:

  • Reset passcode — generates a brand-new passcode for the same link. The new passcode is shown once, the same way it was on generation; anyone using the old passcode is signed out and must enter the new one.
  • Regenerate link — creates a new link (new URL and a new passcode), replacing the current one. The old link stops working.
  • Revoke — permanently disables the link. A confirmation dialog warns that the current link stops working immediately and anyone using it loses access; click Revoke to confirm.

What the Client Sees

The client opens the link in their browser — no ANTE login, and the page sits outside the normal ANTE layout. They're first asked to Enter passcode, with a note naming your company ("[Company] shared this project with you") and a field for the passcode. Ten wrong attempts locks the page for 15 minutes. An unknown or revoked link shows "This link is no longer available" instead of the passcode screen.

Once the passcode is accepted, the client sees:

The company name, the project's name, its project code and client name (if set), and its start–end date range.

Status

Three summary cards — Overall Progress (percentage), Tasks Completed (completed/total), and Milestones Reached (completed/total) — followed by a Completion Trend chart (a cumulative-completion line built from the last 30 days of activity; it shows a "No tasks completed in the last 30 days" message when there's nothing to plot), and a Milestones list. Each milestone shows a progress bar, its completed/total task count and percentage, its Target date, and — once finished — whether it finished on time or late.

Timeline

A read-only version of the project's Gantt chart, grouped by milestone by default (toggle Group by milestone to switch to a flat list) with zoom-in/zoom-out controls. Bars cannot be dragged — clicking a task bar opens that task's read-only detail instead.

Task detail

Clicking a task opens a dialog showing its status, Start, Due, Duration, and Assignees, its description, checklists (with completed/total counts), and attachments (downloadable). Below that is a Comments thread — only comments left by visitors on this public page are shown, never internal staff notes or the project's internal activity feed — plus a composer where the visitor enters their Your name and a Comment and clicks Post comment to add one. Posting a comment is the only thing a visitor can change on the public page.

Common Tasks

Sharing a project with a client for the first time

  1. Open the project and click Settings → Share.
  2. Click Generate link.
  3. Copy the Link and the Passcode (shown once) and send both to the client.

  3. Copy the new passcode and re-share it — the old passcode stops working immediately.

Cutting off access to a shared project

  1. Open Settings → Share on the project.
  2. Click Revoke, then confirm.
  3. The link stops working immediately for anyone who has it.
  1. Open Settings → Share on the project.
  2. Click Regenerate link.
  3. Copy the new Link and Passcode and send them to the client — the previous link no longer works.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Copy the passcode immediately — like the link itself, it's only ever shown once. If you lose it, use Reset passcode to get a fresh one.
  • The public page is live, not a snapshot — a client refreshing the page always sees the project's current progress, so there's no need to re-share the link after updates.
  • Comments stay client-only — anything a visitor posts on the public page is separate from your project's internal Activity Log and task notes, so it won't clutter (or leak into) your team's internal discussion.
  • Project Details — the project page the Settings → Share menu item lives on.
  • Project Views — the Gantt view the public timeline mirrors.
  • Discovery — another passcode-protected public link feature, used for client onboarding questionnaires.

💡 Note: Only project members with edit access to the project can see and use the Share menu item.
