Demo Seed

Demo Seed populates your current company with a ready-made set of demo records β€” employees, projects, tasks, inventory, treasury and accounting, payroll, and more β€” so you can explore or showcase the system without entering data by hand. Any signed-in user on a demo company can run it; the server blocks the action outright on a real (non-demo) company.

Only visible in companies tagged Demo

Settings β†’ Demo Seed only appears in the sidebar for companies tagged as a Demo company. If you don't see it, your company is a real (non-demo) company, and Demo Seed is not available β€” this is by design, since the full seed wipes existing data first.

The full seed removes existing data first

Clicking Seed Data (the full seed) cleans your company's existing data first, then adds the demo records. Use this only on a company set aside for demos or testing β€” never on a company that holds real business data. A confirmation dialog asks you to confirm before this runs, since it cannot be undone.

A "You're in Demo Mode" notice greets you in demo companies

Any company tagged Demo shows a one-time "You're in Demo Mode" dialog when you sign in, refresh the page, or switch into that demo company β€” reminding you that the data is sample data, safe to explore, and may be reset. Click Got it, start exploring to dismiss it; it won't reappear as you move between pages, only the next time you sign in or switch into a (or another) demo company.

Overview

This is a one-screen tool. It shows you exactly what will be created, then lets you either seed everything at once or seed a single area on its own.

Open it from Settings β†’ Demo Seed. The page header reads Demo Seed with the subtitle "Populate this company with demo data."

The screen has three parts:

  • A warning banner reminding you that demo employees, projects, tasks, and other data will be added, and that existing data is cleaned first when you run the full seed.
  • A "Data That Will Be Created" list β€” every demo area, with a short description of what it includes and a small import button to seed just that area.
  • A "Seed Demo Data" action card β€” the main button that cleans and seeds everything in one run, with a live progress display.

Data That Will Be Created

Each row in the list represents one area of demo data. The description shows the approximate volume of records you can expect.

AreaWhat it includes
HRIS & Employees15 employees, contracts, schedules, payroll
Leave & FilingsLeave types, balances, HR filings, attendance
Projects & Tasks3 projects, 45 tasks, milestones, board lanes
Engagements8 engagements with deliverables, issues, risks
Process Templates5 templates with steps and instances
Teams & Clients3 teams with members, 4 project clients
CRM & Deals5 lead companies, 6 contacts, 8 deals across pipeline stages, sources, deal types, activity log
Assets & Inventory30 items, 4 warehouses, inventory, 5 suppliers, equipment, BOMs, receipts, deliveries
Treasury & Accounting40 chart-of-accounts codes, 3 fund accounts, 15 transactions, 6 invoices, 3 collections, posted journal entries
Timekeeping8 cutoff periods, daily attendance for all employees
Hiring & Recruitment28 applicants, 4 requisitions, interviews, offers, screening questions
Point of Sale20 products, POS device + cashier, payment methods, 8 customers, ~45 sample sales

Each row has a small import button on the right that seeds only that area. (See Seeding a Single Area.)

Treasury & Accounting: what's not seeded

Purchase Orders, Purchase Requests, and Payables are not created by any seed β€” they require an item receipt from the Assets module, which isn't wired into the seeder yet. After seeding, those Treasury pages stay empty. Leased Assets, Fixed Assets, foreign-exchange (FX) revaluation, and bank reconciliation are also intentionally left unseeded.

How to Seed All Demo Data

This is the main workflow. It cleans the company and repopulates every area.

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Demo Seed.
  2. Review the warning banner and the Data That Will Be Created list so you know what is about to be added.
  3. In the Seed Demo Data card, click the Seed Data button.
  4. A confirmation dialog titled "Seed demo data?" appears, warning that "This deletes the existing data for this company and replaces it with demo data. This cannot be undone."
  5. Click Seed data to confirm (or close the dialog to cancel).
  6. The Seeding Demo Data... progress dialog appears and runs through each step automatically. A message asks you not to close the page while it works.
  7. When finished, the dialog shows Demo Data Seeded along with a Records Created summary. Click Done to close it.

The progress steps

While seeding runs, the dialog shows a progress bar (for example, "4 of 17") and a checklist of steps. Each step turns into a check mark as it completes. The steps run in this order:

  1. Cleaning existing data
  2. Setting up organization
  3. Creating user accounts
  4. Setting up HRIS & employees
  5. Creating teams & clients
  6. Creating training modules
  7. Creating projects & board lanes
  8. Creating tasks & checklists
  9. Setting up process templates
  10. Creating engagements
  11. Setting up inventory & warehouses
  12. Setting up treasury & accounting
  13. Setting up payroll & timekeeping
  14. Creating HR filings & attendance
  15. Creating hiring & recruitment data
  16. Setting up Point of Sale
  17. Finalizing

The results summary

When seeding succeeds, the Records Created section lists how many of each record type were created, including: Accounts, Projects, Tasks, Engagements, Process Templates, Clients, Teams, Warehouses, Items, Stock Records, Deliveries, Cutoff Periods, Purchase Requests, Purchase Orders, Fund Accounts, HR Filings, Attendance Conflicts, Payroll Records, Hiring Applicants, POS Devices, Payment Methods, POS Products, POS Customers, and Sample Sales.

Common Tasks

Seeding a Single Area

If you only need demo data for one area (for example, just Treasury & Accounting), you can seed it on its own β€” no confirmation dialog, since these buttons don't delete anything first:

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Demo Seed.
  2. In the Data That Will Be Created list, find the area you want.
  3. Click the small import button on the right of that row. The button shows a spinning indicator while it works.
  4. When it finishes, a confirmation toast appears showing the message and the number of records created (for example, "Seeded Treasury & Accounting (27 records)").
Single-area seeding is safe to repeat

Each area's own import button clears that area's data before adding new records, so running it again updates the data in place instead of duplicating it or failing.

Statuses and Messages

When the seed runs, the result dialog shows one of these outcomes:

  • Demo Data Seeded β€” every step completed successfully; the Records Created summary is shown.
  • Seeded with Errors β€” the seed finished but one or more steps failed. The dialog lists each failed step with its error message, and still shows the records that were successfully created.
  • Seed Failed β€” the seed could not complete. The message reads "Failed to seed demo data. Check server logs for details." Click Close and try again.

If you seed a single area and it fails, a message explains why instead of a generic error β€” for example, that the area was already seeded, or that a required service is unreachable.

Tips

  • Don't close or navigate away from the page while the Seeding Demo Data... dialog is running.
  • Use Seed Data (the full seed) only on a company reserved for demos or testing, because it deletes existing data before adding the demo records. Per-area seeding is lower-risk β€” it only clears that one area, not the whole company.
  • If a Treasury page still looks empty after seeding, check whether it's one of the deliberately-unseeded items (Purchase Orders, Purchase Requests, Payables, Leased Assets, Fixed Assets, FX, bank reconciliation) rather than assuming the seed failed.

πŸ’‘ Note: Demo Seed replaces your company's current data with sample records. Always confirm you are on the correct demo or test company before seeding.
