Services
A service item is a non-inventoried item you can sell through POS. Unlike regular items, services have no stock β they represent work or a service rendered rather than a physical product. Selling a service never touches inventory.
The Services tab lives inside the Items page, alongside All Items, Variations, Groups, and Deleted.
How to Get Here
- In the sidebar, open Assets β Master Settings β Item Master.
- On the Items page, click the Services tab.
Page Layout
- Add Service button (top right, secondary) β appears on all tabs except Deleted. Clicking it opens the service creation form.
- Add Item button (top right, primary) β creates a regular inventoried item instead.
- Services table β lists all service items.
Services Table Columns
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| (Image) | Service thumbnail, or a package icon if none is set |
| SKU | The service's stock-keeping unit |
| Name | The service's name |
| Category | Assigned category (or -) |
| Selling Price | The service's selling price |
You can sort by SKU, Name, and Selling Price.
Row Actions
Open a row's action menu to:
- View Info β open the service's detail page.
- Edit β open the service's edit form.
- Delete β remove the service.
Clicking anywhere on a row also opens that service's detail page.
Common Tasks
Creating a Service Item
- On the Items page (any tab except Deleted), click Add Service.
- The service form opens with the title Add Service.
- Under Basic Information, fill in:
- Service Name (required) β the label shown in POS and on receipts.
- SKU (required) β by default Auto-generate SKU is ticked, which builds the SKU from the service name. Untick it to type your own SKU.
- Description (optional)
- Under Pricing, optionally enter the Selling Price. (There is no buying price or stock-level fields β services are not inventoried.)
- Under Classification, optionally set Brand, Category, Branch, and Keywords.
- Under Settings, optionally tick Enable in POS and/or Enable in E-Commerce.
- Click Create Service.
The Item Type card, Unit of Measurement field, inventory fields (Minimum/Maximum Stock Level), and accounting fields (Inventory, COGS, Shrinkage, GRNI accounts) are all hidden for service items β they do not apply.
Viewing a Service's Detail Page
Open the detail page to see the service's information. The detail page shows:
- Basic info: Name, SKU, Description, and a Service badge next to the item type.
- Pricing: Selling Price only (no buying price, no stock levels).
Note: the Inventories tab and Suppliers tab that appear on regular item detail pages are not shown for service items, because services have no inventory or supplier-price records.
Editing a Service
- On the Services tab, find the service.
- Open the row's action menu and choose Edit (or open the detail page and edit from there).
- The edit form follows the same layout as the creation form.
Deleting a Service
- On the Services tab, find the service.
- Open the row's action menu and choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
How Services Work in POS
- Service items appear in the POS product grid and can be added to a cart.
- A service card shows "Service" instead of a stock count β it never shows "Out of Stock" and is always available to sell.
- Selling a service does not deduct or affect inventory.
- If all items in a cart are services, the Delivery order type is unavailable (services cannot be delivered). The cashier must select Over the Counter or another non-delivery type.
Where Services Do Not Appear
Service items are excluded from inventory-bearing pickers throughout the system because they have no stock:
- BOM (Bill of Materials) component search β services cannot be a BOM component.
- Packing Standards line items β services cannot be added to a packing standard.
- Equipment spare parts β services cannot be added as equipment parts.
- Beginning Balance item list β services do not appear in the beginning-balance entry screen.
- Item Groups β services cannot be added as members of an item group.
