Profit & Loss
Profit & Loss is the management view of the income statement: the same profit, spread month by month across the financial year with a year-to-date total, and carried through to retained earnings. Use it to see how each month is trending. Only posted journals count; draft (unposted) documents are excluded.
Where to Find It
- Click Treasury in the sidebar
- Open Financial Statements, then select Profit & Loss
You need the Treasury Financial Statements permission. The page title shows the currency, for example Profit & Loss (PHP).
Choosing the Window
Click Apply after changing either date.
Reading the Report
The columns are Acc Code, Description, YTD and one column per month in the window. The rows follow the multi-step layout: Income, Net Sales, Gross Profit, Other Income, Operating Expenses in their groups, Net Profit, Taxation, Net Profit After Tax, then Retained Earning B/F (profit accumulated before the year start) and Retained Earning C/F, which carries forward month by month and ties to the retained earnings on the Balance Sheet. Negatives appear in brackets and zero amounts are left blank. The table scrolls sideways when the window is wide.
Seeing What Makes Up an Amount
Click any amount on an account, group or computed row, in the YTD column or a month column, to open the Amount Breakdown. It explains how the figure is computed and lists the posted journal lines behind it.
Apply Reporting Currency
Apply Reporting Currency translates the whole spread in place into another currency (IAS 21). Pick a Reporting currency and a Rate book (or keep the defaults) and click Apply. If a required rate is missing, the page says the translation is unavailable. Click Reset to functional to go back.
Exporting to Excel
Export to Excel downloads the spread for the applied as-of date and year start, in the reporting currency when one is applied.
For a single period with a prior-period comparison, use the Income Statement.
