Withholding Tax

The Withholding Tax report adds up the withholding taxes in your ledger for a period. It shows two figures: the expanded withholding tax you withheld from suppliers and must pay over to the BIR, and the creditable withholding tax that customers withheld from you, which you can credit against your income tax. You reach it at Treasury → Configuration → Withholding Tax.

Reading the Report

EWT Payable (to BIR)amount
The net credit to your withholding payable account: tax you deducted from supplier payments and still owe the BIR. The account code is shown under the figure.
Creditable WHT (received)amount
The net debit to your creditable withholding account: tax withheld from your own receipts, held as an asset until you claim it as a credit.
Tip

Example: you paid a supplier 100,000.00 less 2% withholding. The 2,000.00 withheld builds up in EWT Payable until you remit it to the BIR.

Only posted journals count

Amounts come from the general ledger, so a withholding appears here once the payment or receipt that created it has been posted.

When Nothing Shows

If the page says "No withholding configuration", no withholding codes exist yet. Apply a tax template that includes a withholding code on Tax Configuration, then return here.

How It Connects

Set up first

  • Tax Configuration — the withholding codes decide which accounts count as payable and creditable.

Gets its data from

  • Request for Payment — withholding taken from supplier payments builds up the payable figure.
  • Sales Invoice — withholding customers deduct from collections builds up the creditable figure.

Feeds into

  • VAT Return — the companion tax summary, read from the same tax configuration.
  • Trial Balance — the withholding accounts reconcile to their trial balance totals.
