Tax Configuration

Tax Configuration holds your company's tax setup in one place: the tax profile (which country's rules you follow), the list of tax codes with their rates and the ledger accounts each tax posts to, and the Period Close control that locks the books up to a date. The VAT Return and Withholding Tax reports read what you set up here. You reach it at Treasury → Configuration → Tax Configuration.

Applying a Tax Template

A new company has no tax setup, and the screen says "No tax configuration yet". You do not build the codes by hand: you apply a jurisdiction template that seeds the profile and a ready set of codes (output VAT, withholding and the accounts they use).

  1. Open the dialog

Click Apply Template in the page header (or the button in the empty state).

  2. Choose the jurisdiction

Pick a Jurisdiction from the list; each option shows the jurisdiction and the template name.

  3. Apply

Click Apply Template. The screen confirms "Tax template applied" and the profile and codes appear.

One jurisdiction per company

Applying the same jurisdiction again is safe. Once a jurisdiction is set, switching to a different one is not allowed.

Tax Profile and Codes

After a template is applied the screen shows two blocks.

Jurisdictionread-only
The jurisdiction and template name your company follows.
Prices Include TaxYes / No
Whether the prices you enter already contain tax.
Withholding AgentYes / No
Whether your company withholds tax from suppliers.

Below the profile is the tax code table, searchable and sortable, with these columns:

ColumnWhat it shows
Code / NameThe tax code and its description.
TypeOne of Sales / Output Tax, Purchase / Input Tax, Withholding (Payable) or Withholding (Creditable).
RateThe percentage applied.
StructureHow the tax is laid out on a transaction.
GL AccountsThe ledger accounts (code and name) the tax posts to.
Info

The table is read-only; to change which account a role posts to, use GL Account Mapping for the fallback tax roles.

Period Close

The Period Close card at the top controls whether old periods can still be posted to. It shows an Open badge while nothing is closed, or a Soft close or Hard close badge with "Closed through" and the date. This control does not depend on the tax profile.

  1. Open the dialog

Click Close period (or Change close date when a period is already closed).

  2. Fill it in
    Close date*date
Postings dated on or before this date fall in a closed period.
    Modedropdown
Soft close warns when someone posts into the closed period. Hard close blocks new manual and AI postings; authorized users can override.
    Reason (optional)text
A note kept with the close.
  3. Review the warning, then confirm

If any depreciation or lease journals due on or before the date are still unposted, the dialog counts them (fixed-asset and lease separately). Post them first so they are not stranded, then click Close period.

To lift a close, click Reopen on the card.

Tip

Automated journals such as depreciation and lease accrual are never blocked by a close. No closing entry is posted, and retained earnings stays derived from the ledger.
