Device Management (Gate)
Manage gate devices that record student attendance through scanning.
Overview
Register, configure, and monitor gate devices that capture student entry and exit at school premises.
Page Layout
- Add Device button - Register new device
- Search - Find devices
- Filter - Filter by status, location
- Devices Table - List of all gate devices
Device Information
Each device record includes:

| Device ID | Unique identifier |
| Device Name | Descriptive name |
| Location | Physical location |
| Type | Entry/Exit/Both |
| Status | Online/Offline |
| Last Activity | Last scan time |
| API Key | Authentication key |
Common Tasks
Registering a Device
- Click + Add Device
- Enter device details:
- Device ID - Unique ID
- Name - Location-based name
- Location - Where it's installed
- Type - Entry, Exit, or Both
- Generate API Key
- Click Save
- Configure device with API key
Viewing Device Status
- Open Device Management
- View status column:
- 🟢 Online - Active and working
- 🔴 Offline - Not responding
- 🟡 Warning - Issues detected
Regenerating API Key
- Find device
- Click Manage Keys
- Click Generate New Key
- Confirm action
- Update device with new key
Warning: Old key stops working immediately.
Viewing Device Activity
- Click on device
- Go to Activity tab
- View recent scans
- Check for issues
Deactivating a Device
- Find device
- Click Deactivate
- Confirm deactivation
- Device can no longer authenticate
Device Types
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Entry Only | Records student arrivals |
| Exit Only | Records student departures |
| Entry/Exit | Records both directions |
Monitoring
Health Indicators
- Last Ping - How recently device connected
- Scan Count - Today's scan count
- Error Rate - Recent errors
- Battery - Power status (if applicable)
Alerts
System alerts you when:
- Device goes offline
- Unusual scan patterns
- Authentication failures
- Hardware issues reported
Tips
- Descriptive Names - Name by location
- Regular Checks - Monitor device health
- Backup Keys - Keep API key records
- Maintenance - Schedule regular checks
- Documentation - Note device locations
