Push Notifications

Configure push notifications sent to guardians through the Guardian App.

Overview

Push notifications alert guardians in real-time when students arrive at or leave school.

Page Layout

• Notification Settings - Configure notification types

Notification Types

Type	Trigger
Student Arrival	Student scans in at gate
Student Departure	Student scans out
Late Arrival	Student arrives after cutoff
Early Departure	Student leaves before dismissal
Absence Alert	Student marked absent
Announcement	School-wide announcements

Common Tasks

Enabling Notification Types

1. Go to School → Guardian API → Push Notifications
2. View notification types
3. Toggle each type on/off
4. Save settings

Customizing Templates

1. Go to Message Templates
2. Select notification type
3. Edit message:

   Your child {studentName} has arrived at school at {time}.

4. Available variables:
   • {studentName} - Student's name
   • {time} - Event time
   • {date} - Event date
   • {gate} - Gate location
5. Save template

Sending Test Notification

1. Click Test Notification
2. Enter guardian's phone/email
3. Select notification type
4. Click Send
5. Verify receipt

Viewing Delivery Reports

1. Go to Delivery Report
2. View sent notifications:
   • Recipient
   • Message
   • Time sent
   • Status (Delivered/Failed)
3. Filter by date or status

Notification Settings

Setting	Description
Quiet Hours	Don't send during these hours
Batch Delay	Wait time before sending
Retry Count	Times to retry failed sends
Priority	Normal/High priority

Message Variables

{firstName}	Student's first name

{day}	Day of week
{gate}	Gate name
{status}	Attendance status

Example Templates

Arrival

Good morning! {studentName} has arrived at school at {time}.

Departure

{studentName} has left school at {time}. See you tomorrow!

Late

{studentName} arrived late today at {time}. Please ensure timely arrival.

Troubleshooting

Notifications Not Received

• Verify guardian has app installed
• Check FCM token is registered
• Verify phone has internet
• Check app notification permissions

Delayed Notifications

• Check quiet hours settings
• Verify batch delay settings
• Check server performance

Tips

• Clear Messages - Keep notifications concise
• Useful Info - Include relevant details
• Test Regularly - Verify notifications work
• Monitor Delivery - Check for failures
• Respect Privacy - Only necessary information
